A HOUSE OF PRAYER:
CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE

The Parish Church of Christ Church is a beautiful and historic setting for a wedding and includes the Ivan Harewood Centre, which is situated next to the church and can comfortably accommodate up to 100 guests for a reception.

Couples may also book the Courtyard of the Ivan Harewood Centre or the Christ Church Rectory Cliff Garden at Enterprise beach if they prefer an intimate open-air venue for the wedding ceremony (visit our Centre's webpage).

Preparation

The Anglican Church in the Province of the West Indies explains, through its Book of Common Prayer, that marriage is “the union of husband and wife in body, mind, and spirit … intended by God for their mutual joy and fulfillment; for the help and comfort given one another in prosperity and adversity”. Marriage “is a way of life that all should reverence; and therefore, it must not be entered into carelessly, selfishly, or wantonly, but responsibly, honestly, and after serious thought and prayer”.

Therefore, couples planning to get married at Christ Church should allow a sufficient time period for marriage preparation, so the church may help them fully understand the meaning and purpose of marriage. This period of discernment is called the marriage preparation process.

For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.

Genesis 2:24; Mark 10:7-9
